A simple sugar cookie recipe turns into a fun and festive cookie with this nostalgic cookie cutter. Cookie Butter Sugar Cookies boasts delicious holiday flavor with a little cookie butter flavor added to the dough. This post is sponsored on behalf of #ChristmasCookiesWeek. The generous sponsors, YumGoggle, Sprinkle Pop, Silpat and Adams Extracts have provided us with products for recipe creation and a giveaway for our readers. As always, all opinions are my own.
I can’t believe it’s the last day of #ChristmasCookiesWeek! Can you? I have seen some absolutely delicious cookies I can’t wait to add to my baking list. I hope you have pinned several recipes, too.
My final recipe is more about my immediately family history. Ever since I can remember, we’ve had bubble lights on our tree. I’m not even really how that traditional got started, but it did. They were the last lights to go on the tree before adding the ornaments.
For those that don’t know, a bubble light is just that.
It’s a light that has liquid in a tube that bubbles. They’re filled with a chemical that has a low boiling point that allows the incandescent light bulb make it boil. They come in many colors and I’ve even seen some interesting shapes, too.
One of the novelty stores sold a bubble light night light one year. Of course, I had to get a couple of those. The problem was, or is I should say, the bulbs are not easily found at your local stores. At least not at my local stores. I don’t see them at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Not even Walmart sells them.
It’s because of this, and the fact that the hubs just doesn’t really like them for some reason, that we haven’t put them on our tree in the last few years. I miss them. I want to bring them back and put them on our tree again.
This is the year I put my foot down and insist they go on the tree! Maybe.
Then again, I think many of them aren’t working because they’re quite old. Not as old as the original bubble lights. Did you know they were made in England in the 20’s but didn’t come to the States until the 40’s? They come in your typical holiday colors of yellow, red, blue, and green. Sometimes they’re white with clear liquid, but those are few and far between. They’ve even adapted the bubble light for Halloween, too!
It’s only natural that I selected the bubble light cookie cutter when Yum Goggle sponsored this event. Even though I have a TON of holiday cookie cutters, I didn’t have a bubble light. And since bubble lights have always been our tree, I couldn’t pass that opportunity up!
Could you?
For those that don’t know, Yum Goggle is a great website to find delicious recipes to make all throughout the year. There’s a huge range of recipes from appetizers and side dishes to entrees and desserts. I have submitted several of my own recipes their site. I need to submit my recipes from this week, too!
Yum Goggle also promotes your recipes, too. They are shared across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. So, not only is it a great place to find recipes, but it’s a great place to share yours and get more exposure to your blog. If you haven’t visited them, you really should!
Besides, they sent us these adorable cookie cutter!
Okay. You can’t laugh at my rudimentary piping skills. I mean, this is the first time I’ve used royal icing. Heck, it’s the first time I’ve MADE it. But, it’s not going to be the last time. I did have fun decorating cookies while listening to Christmas carols on Spotify.
I really wanted to make them look more like real bubble lights. The white bits were supposed to be in the flood icing and slightly swirled, but that didn’t happen. However, I did manage to get them to look somewhat like bubble lights. So, I guess that’s a win.
I always remembered ours to have two colors on the bottom growing up, but I’ve seen some of the new ones that have just one solid color on the bottom. They sort of look weird to me. With the exception of the clear ones. Those were a find and it was like finding a pearl.
Oooooh ahhh! Look how pretty the clear ones are!
As I site here finishing this post I remember how some of them would stop bubbling after a while. That’s when you’d take a steak knife or something and tap it on the top. It would get the bubbles going again. It’s funny what you think about when you’re older.
Like, I remember this angel ornament that I loved so much. Actually, I still have it. I would make sure I found a clear bubble light to sit her on top it to make sure she glowed. She’s this cute little angel with a lamb at her feet. I don’t know where she came from, but she quickly became my favorite ornament on the three.
And there were OH so many ornaments. I remember one night starting to decorate the tree. We got the lights up after about an hour. Then it was another 2 hours of ornaments. Because we had to put everyone ornament we had on the tree. We started with the really pretty ones and ended with the big jumbled box of older and not as desirable ornaments.
Of course, but this time we were all delirious and wondered when the ornaments would stop reproducing like rabbits. Because that’s what it seemed like they were doing. So, you know how you get when you’re overtired and everything is just stupid funny? Well, that’s the rock bottom we had hit by the time we pulled the red headed doll out of the box. The one with yarn hair. That looked like she had stuck her finger in a light socket.
Giggles ensued. And continued. And continued.
Until our faces were wet with tears and we couldn’t breathe from laughing so hard. Like I said, it’s funny what you think of when you’re older.
And on that note, I close my #ChristmasCookiesWeek with a fond family memory. I hope you have many and will have many years to create more. All the while you can create some of the delicious cookies shared this week. Make sure to enter the giveaway in my gingerbread macaron. There’s some great prizes to win!
